Do Pets Have Souls? a spiritual guide for the heartbroken and the hopeful
Animals are soul beings
Have you ever looked into your pet’s eyes and felt something stir — something you can’t quite explain, but you know it’s real?
You’re not imagining it. You’re feeling the truth:
Animals have souls.
And when they leave their bodies, they don’t leave you.
As an intuitive, animal communicator, and spiritual life coach, I’ve walked with many clients, friends and family — and my own path — through the grief of pet loss. What I’ve found on the other side of that heartbreak is not just peace, but proof.
Let’s explore that together.
Do Pets Really Have Souls?
If you’re here, you’ve likely already felt the answer stirring in your heart. Maybe it came in the silence after your pet passed. Maybe it came in a dream, or a flash of recognition in another animal’s eyes.
Or maybe all 3 and more like it did for me.
After the passing of our first Bull Terrier, Zeppelin, we were lost, grieving and living in a home that felt too empty. He had been battling a long illness (didn’t make it any easier), we had a plan for rescuing 2 new Bull Terriers after his passing, one female and another male. My first hint of Zeppelin still hanging around came when we brought our new girl home. She would look to the corners of our family room near the ceiling like she saw something often going into a play bow. Then there was his shadow appearing under the bathroom door. When we brought home our new male puppy about 4 months after Zeppelin’s passing, I swore sometimes when I looked at him, I saw Zeppelin looking back. (This is soul drop in, a phenomenon where a visiting soul can inhabit a very young body for a bit because the body/soul coupling isn’t completely solid yet.)
We hire a dog trainer shortly after that who came to the house. She walked in seeing the picture of Zeppelin on the bookshelf, commenting, I see you have a breed. Then she turned her attention to the 2 dogs. Midsentence she stopped, talking directly to the puppy said, “Did you like it here so much that you decided to come back?” And then just went on like nothing had happened.
When I questioned her later about what she had said she had no recollection of saying it. Apparently, Zeppelin knew we needed outside confirmation of what we were experiencing. You see, I didn’t just want to believe — I needed to know. And what I’ve come to trust through all my experiences is this:
Animals are soul beings. They don’t speak in our words, but they communicate in presence, energy and LOVE. And love doesn’t end at the last heartbeat.
Where do pets go after they die?
In my sessions, pets often show me a kind of spirit meadow — a realm of peace and light and love where they run freely, rest deeply, and stay connected to the people who love them. Another very common thing they show me is what I call soul school — where they learn new things, explore their lives, all taking place in the most loving, supportive realm, their excitement in returning to these places is comforting. They all tell me that are fully aware of what is happening back with their humans, and they can visit or check-in whenever they want or whenever we need them. It’s not fluffy mythology. It’s a consistent energetic truth I’ve witnessed again and again.
A client came to me for a session right after the passing of their German Sheppard. Their dog showed me several memories that were private and meaningful for both him and his people so they would know it was him.
He also shared a conversation they had had after his passing to help them understand that he was still around and connected to them.
These connections aren’t rare. Their real — and they’re accessible, especially when grief softens enough to let love come back through.
How to know if your pet is trying to connect
You don’t need psychic powers to feel your pet’s presence. You just need openness, intention, and a willingness to trust what your logical brain tries to dismiss.
Here are a few common signs that a beloved animal is near:
Hearing their tags jingle, paws padding, or familiar sound
Seeing them in dreams (often vibrantly or fully healthy)
Sudden waves of emotion or warmth when thinking of them
Sensing them jump onto the bed or lay beside you
Seeing animals that resemble them cross your path repeatedly (even in TV shows or online)
And sometimes, their spirit evolves into something more — a protector, a guide, even a reoccurring soul in your life.
My sweet girl, Violet, has become a spirit guide , working with me and constantly reminding me that: We are love, We are in love, and We are surrounded by love.
I often feel her laying on my feet as she did when she was here in the physical.
How You can reconnect with your pet’s soul
Here’s something many people don’t realized:
You can communicate with your pet after they pass — and you don’t need to be a professional intuitive to begin.
You might start by:
Speaking to them aloud or in your heart
Asking for specific signs, then watching what unfolds
Lighting a candle and setting an intention to connect
Journaling with the prompt: If you could say anything to me right now, what would it be?
Sitting in stillness and inviting them in
Want guided support? I offer animal communication sessions for pets both in physical and spirit form. These sessions often bring healing, closure, and even laughter — because our soul connections don’t end, they just transform.
Ready to reconnect with your beloved animal companion?
I’d be honored to help you feel that connection again.
Final thought: Soul Bonds Don’t Break
If you’re grieving the loss of your pet, please know this:
You’re not being “too sensitive”. You’re being soul-aware.
That grief you feel? It’s sacred. It’s love with no place to land — yet.
But your pet’s spirit is closer than you think. And with some time, presences, and trust, that bond can feel more alive than ever.
